Apple Watch Series 12 is a health-focused update built around the new S11 chip and Health Sensing System. Apple says the redesigned optical and electrical sensors provide its most accurate wearable heart-rate measurements while collecting heart rate and heart-rate variability more frequently throughout the day.
A new readiness score combines activity, sleep, and vital signs into a daily value from zero to ten. The watch translates that score into recommendations such as Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready, or Go For It. The goal is to make recovery information easier to understand without requiring users to interpret several separate charts.
Audio Intelligence expands the watch beyond fitness. Features arriving in beta include Sound Recognition, Live Rewind for deliberately retrieving a short snippet of recent conversation, and Siri Recap for creating encrypted summaries when enabled. Apple uses audible and visual indicators during Live Rewind, an important safeguard for people nearby.
The watch runs watchOS 27 with Siri AI, a dynamic app grid, contextual Smart Stack suggestions, and new one-handed gestures. Apple also expands Cycle Tracking and Workout Buddy, while established functions such as ECG, sleep tracking, Fall Detection, and Emergency SOS remain part of the platform.
Series 12 is sold in 42mm and 46mm sizes. Aluminum finishes include dark bronze, black, light gold, and space gray; titanium comes in radiant gold or natural; and ceramic versions are available in pearl white and night blue. Apple rates everyday battery life at up to 24 hours, with a 15-minute charge adding up to 12 hours under its testing.
Prices start at $399 in the United States, with cost varying by size, material, connectivity, and region. Series 12 offers a substantial sensor and software upgrade, but buyers should treat readiness as wellness guidance rather than medical diagnosis and wait for independent testing before judging Apple’s accuracy claims.
