Apple has introduced the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone and the company’s clearest attempt yet to bring phone and tablet-style experiences into a single device. The official introduction focuses less on the novelty of the hinge and more on what the larger canvas can do in everyday use.

When opened, the iPhone Duo reveals a 7.6-inch inner display that Apple says is 50 percent larger than the display on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Photos can show more detail, Safari can fit more information on screen, and two apps can run side by side. Apple also demonstrates moving apps between positions and saving useful app pairings for faster access later.

The foldable design supports several viewing positions. The video shows hands-free FaceTime calls and flexible media viewing, turning the lower half of the device into a natural stand. Entertainment is another major part of the pitch: video can fill the inner screen while messages remain close at hand, supported by spatial audio.

Siri AI plays a central role in Apple’s demonstration. In one example, the assistant searches information stored across the user’s apps to identify an artist mentioned in a previous message, then begins playing a song from the artist’s latest album. It is a practical illustration of Apple’s vision for an assistant that understands personal context instead of responding only to isolated commands.

Inside, the iPhone Duo uses Apple’s A20 Pro chip and a dual-battery system designed to provide all-day power. The hardware also includes a titanium frame and a 48-megapixel Dual Fusion camera system, with the folding form enabling new angles for photography and video.

The most important part of the iPhone Duo may be its software rather than its shape. Android manufacturers have spent years refining foldable hardware, so Apple’s opportunity is to make multitasking, continuity, and flexible positioning feel immediately understandable to existing iPhone users. The introduction suggests that Apple wants the Duo to feel familiar first and experimental second.
